Mokosh Skincare: Interview with founder Marion O'Leary
A few months ago, I had the chance to meet Marion O'Leary, the founder of Mokosh Skin Care. Mokosh is a certified organic beauty brand born and bred in Fremantle, Western Australia. I am all for using natural products on your skin and supporting local brands, but more than that, I was really curious to know the story behind the brand. I learnt so much talking with Marion, a medical scientist who in 2006 made the shift from a busy career to creating pure and natural products in the own haven of her backyard. It was her desire to spend more time with her kids that drove Marion to start a home-based business. What started with making soap quickly turned into a successful skincare business.
Mokosh bases its principles on Ayurveda medicine and is one of the few preservative-free, synthetic-free, palm oil free brands. What more could you want?
Firstly, how much water do skincare products usually contain? Some regular lotions can contain up to 80% water which does not leave much space for the good stuff. Mokosh decided to get rid of the water and only kept the concentrated botanical ingredients. This means you only need to apply a small amount of the product to reap all of the benefits. No need to top up on your cream every second week as it will last a lot longer than your usual cream.
Secondly, do you know your Dosha? In Ayurveda medicine, Doshas refer to your unique physical and mental constitution, which influence your personal well-being. They are divided into three categories(Dosha) and just by looking at your skin you can tell a lot about which category you belong to:
- Vata is thin, dry, fine-pored, delicate and wrinkle-prone;
- Pitta is susceptible to rashes, breakouts, and rosacea if out of balance
- Kapha is thicker and oilier, prone to enlarged pores, blackheads, pimples, and eczema
Mokosh is strongly influenced by Indian Ayurveda medicine and as such cater for all of skin types. Discover more about their ranges by clicking on the link: http://www.mokosh.com.au/
