My skin routine

My skin routine

As a lot of you asked me on social media how I treated my latest flare-up of psoriasis, I thought I will share with you how I manage my skin everyday but also my go-to essentials when the psoriasis gets worse.

Psoriasis is an auto-immune condition where the body overproduces skin cells which does not leave time for the old skin to scale down. The cells of our skin build-up and create red, scaly, itchy patches. There are many triggers that can cause a flare-up such as medication, stress, injury or infection. Everybody is different and what works for someone might not work for an other. Personally, I think my psoriasis was triggered each time by emotional trauma but honestly, it could be anything. Just remember psoriasis originates from inside, the root of psoriasis is often linked to the gut and digestion. A healthy diet could just be the key.

So here is how I take care of my skin on a daily basis and how I amp-up the hydration when having a flare-up.

My everyday products:

  • MooGoo body wash, shampoo and conditioner. I have started to use these products during my last psoriasis flare-up. The body wash was the only product I found to soothe my skin and minimize the itchiness.
  • Kora organics, Hydrating Day and Night Cream. I have been alternating between this cream and the soothing face cream for years and it has been very good to treat the redness I have got from Rosacea.
  • Dr Hauschka, Rose Toner & Rose cream light: It is quite a rich cream so I mostly use it in the evening after spraying the rose toner onto my face.
  • Weleda Birch oil: Originally a cellulite oil, I use it all over my body, it is super nourishing, free of chemicals and smells amazing.
  • Coconut oil, an essential in my bathroom. I mostly apply it after my shower on damp skin.

During flare-up:

  • Coconut oil, before and after shower.
  • MooGoo psoriasis cream, once the coconut oil has been absorbed, I apply this cream all over.
  • Sunshine and saltwater: I am very lucky to be living in sunny Australia. Vitamin D is known to lower inflammation in your body and saltwater softens the dry skin and improves the appearance of psoriasis.
  • Himalayan salt and Epsom salt bath: If you are not living near the ocean, try a bath with Epsom salt and Himalayan salt. Rich in minerals and magnesium, it improves the skins barrier and relieves the itching. The salt's anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties also speeds up the healing process.
  • Coffee enema and a healthy diet: Stress and medications can increase the level of toxins in your body and when the liver and kidneys cannot flush the toxins anymore, the body will try to remove it through the skin. A coffee enema will increase the bile flow and get rid of the toxins in your liver. I make sure to eat lots of greens and raw fruits to keep detoxing.
  • Juice cleanse: I did a 3 day juice cleanse during my last flare-up and few days later the psoriasis started to fade away so why not giving it a try!
  • Infrared sauna: If you have been reading my blog previously or follow me on Instagram, you will know I am a massive fan. It is very good at relieving my joint pain and it is also a great detox tool. You will be sweating all those toxins out very fast! To read more about it, click here.
