Welcome to my blog. I document my life living with Psoriatic Arthritis and chronic pain. Hope you have a nice stay!
“Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.”
Hi there! My name is Rozenn and I am on a mission to help people embrace their illness and shine bright on their journey to wellness.
I grew up on a farm in the beautiful and far away land of France. Chronic illnesses were always part of my life as my dad was diagnosed with Ankylosis Spondyloarthritis when he was in his twenties. I have witnessed from the first row how auto-immune disease can damage your life. For myself, I was a pretty healthy child until I start having psoriasis when I was 17. This is when my dad rheumatologist suggested I had Psoriatic Arthritis as I was covered in red blotchy spots from head to toe. I lost my good looks for few month (which I was strongly relying on at that stage of life), and more than that, I was really upset. I felt like a victim, it was unfair and I made a point about reminding everyone (like any teenager will do). Once the rash was gone, I forgot about that possible diagnosis and got on with my life, which consisted of partying, drinking and smoking.
Fast forward seven years. I was being a grown-up living in Paris with a great job, still drinking and smoking, no relationship and no respect for myself. I thought I could ignore the symptoms but the pain did not want to remain silent anymore and made sure I got the message. One day while out running I got a sudden excruciating pain in my hip. Initially I thought it was just a strain but as the days went on, I could not walk or run and even pressing the car's accelerator pedal brought tears to my eyes. After multiple appointments with the doctor, physio, chiropractor, rheumatologist and many more that could not figure anything out, I decided to take a 6 month break in Australia. The sunshine did me good and the pain shut down for few months, but then as it always has for me, it came back. It took many years for me to find a good rheumatologist that was able to confirmed I had Psoriatic Arthritis and Spondylitis and to finally accept my disease.
I have now been living with a chronic illness for 13 years, the journey has been long (and far from being over) but these diseases were blessings in disguise. I turned my life around and got to thrive on a far healthier lifestyle. After spending many year rejecting it, I have embraced my illness and got the best possible out of it.
I have quit my toxic life in Paris and permanently move to Australia where I discovered a more holistic approach to wellness. I spent hours reading about auto-immune diseases, trying different kind of diets, different types of exercises and working out multiple ways to cope with that pain. Yes, I do not smoke anymore and I rarely drink, in a way I have never been so healthy. I now know I am the only person that can help myself, that I take responsibility for myself and mostly, listen to my body.
I am here to share my journey with you and hope that along the way, it could help someone.
